Sorell’s most significant historical accommodation
We offer rooms perfect for both couples and families. Room prices include WIFI, private bathrooms, kitchenettes and access to free car parking as standard. In addition our 2 bedroom suite also features a spa.
Situated in the heart of Sorell and within walking distance to a variety of restaurants and shopping centres. The Barracks offers the opportunity to stay in an amazing historical building and is in close proximity to Hobart, the airport & Port Arthur.
Built in the late 1820s, the main building is the oldest dwelling in the township of Sorell. As our name suggests, it was used as a barracks for British soldiers who were responsible for helping maintain the law and order of convicts, and locals.
Stayed in the two bedroom spa suite (two couples). Great suite plenty of room for two couples, basket breakfast supplied more than adequate. Friendly host, value for money, great location close to shops and places to eat, a pub that offers the best "Parmies" in Tassie around the corner. Will stay again when next visiting Hobart.

This was an amazing place to stay, in a loft in the oldest building in Sorell. The room was adorable and so comfortable. Tea and coffee was available and it also had a microwave for convenience. The added stories about the building when we arrived all added to the magical experience

We stayed in the loft room at Sorrel Barracks in late April. Lovely spacious rooms and picturesque scenery make for a very pleasant stay. Close walk to the pub, shops and cafes. The hosts are lovely, friendly on arrival and happy to help with anything we needed.

We traveled as a group of 4 to Tasmania, and we have stayed several antique places during our 7 days trip. The Sorell barracks is one of the BEST stays we had!The lady on site is very friendly and welcomed us with smile, gave us a tour of our suite and showed us the lovely garden. The place was very well looked after, quiet and beautiful, all rooms are very clean, comfy beds, large bathroom. I cannot believe she is already 190 years old!For its price, Sorell Barracks is truely a lovely and rememberable stay. I would like to stay again. And plus, there's an antique shop just a few steps away, don't miss it!

Arrived here after a long drive from north Tazzie, and found out our reservation was screwed up (my fault). Our hostess graciously sorted us out and gave us a wonderful room with two bedrooms (ourselves and our adult son), with a huge bathroom, welcoming basket of teas, biscuits, etc, and all spotless and comfy. Although a bit out of Hobart, it is close to the airport and we had no problem driving into the city to view the incoming yachts from the Sydney Hobart race. We only stayed one night, but if I had known about this place before arrival in Tasmania, we would have booked it for longer. Highly recommended.

A beautiful place to stay. Decked out in colonial decor - I expected a ghost to appear at any time. Stayed in the cottage which was great. No stairs. Very comfortable - but a bit squashed. Not much room around the bed which took up most of the room.
